Twitter employees have sued the company over its plan to layoff about half of its workforce.

The social media platform had mailed its workers informing them that the company would be embarking on a mass layoff starting on Friday.

According to Reuters, the employees cited a class-action lawsuit filed in a San Francisco federal court as they claimed that the company is eliminating workers without enough notice in violation of federal and California law.

The lawsuit requests that the court issue an order mandating Twitter’s compliance with the WARN Act and prohibiting the firm from asking employees to sign agreements that may waive their ability to participate in litigation.

“We filed this lawsuit tonight in an attempt the make sure that employees are aware that they should not sign away their rights and that they have an avenue for pursuing their rights,” Shannon Liss-Riordan, the attorney who filed Thursday’s complaint, said in an interview.
