Financial technology company, Interswitch, on Thursday donated brand new IT equipment to enhance the teaching and learning of tech-related courses in the university.

Gadgets Africa gathered that the equipment donated included three high-end firewalls, two CISCO switches and one router.

The fintech company’s representatives donated the equipment at the office of the Vice-Chancellor, Babatunde Raji Fashola Senate Building, Main Campus, Ojo.

Interswitch’s head of Enterprise Architecture, Patrick Okebu, who led the team said the gesture was aimed at addressing the knowledge gap between school and industry, which has been observed among many graduates.

“LASU is one of the ten tertiary institutions in Nigeria where we are donating the equipment to encourage students studying courses like Computer Science, Engineering and other tech courses to practicalise some of the theories they are being thought.”

The vice-chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, on behalf of the entire university thanked Interswitch for the donation promising that the equipment will be put to good use immediately.

Director, DICT, Prof. Toyin Enikuomehin, in his remarks, thanked the vice chancellor for providing the enabling environment for the donor to consider LASU as one of the beneficiaries. “With the intervention of the vice-chancellor, we have the structure to immediately put the equipment to use for the benefit of all our students. This initiative is in partnership with CISCO Academy and they selected us because we run the academy here in LASU, thanks to the support of the VC”, he said.

The donation was witnessed by the deputy vice-chancellor, Academic, Prof. Wahab Elias, senior officials of the Vice Chancellor’s Office and the DICT.
