Tech company, Google, has introduced a “Continuous Scrolling” feature on desktop to eliminate the need for users to navigate across pages to find relevant search results for English-language queries in the United States.
This is an expansion on a feature that the company has offered on mobile for some time.
Users can now see up to six pages of search results by scrolling down before seeing the “More” button to look for more results with continuous scrolling. Google limits continuous scrolling on mobile to four pages of search results at a time.
They are however, advised to not confuse continuous scrolling with infinite scrolling.
It is safe to mention that Google’s search results have traditionally been “paged.” Until now, users who scrolled down the search result page and wanted to see more results had to click on the page number at the bottom.
The new feature may also give sites that did not rank high enough to appear on the first page more visibility.
Meanwhile, the change comes at a time when many users are complaining that the quality of Google search results is deteriorating.
In response, Google has implemented a number of changes, including making search results more visually appealing.
In September, it also launched a feature that displayed Reddit and Quora results in a section called “Discussions and forums.”
While many features are designed with mobile in mind, Google is also working to improve desktop search.
The company has been testing widget-styled cards on the home screen to provide users with quick access to information such as weather and stock prices.
