Google to launch seamless eSIM profile transfer on Android

Google to launch seamless eSIM profile transfer on Android

Google is set to implement the eSIM profile transfer functionality on Android, comparable to that of an iPhone iOS feature.

The implementation of this feature was disclosed by a new system parameter dubbed, “euicc.seamless transfer enabled in non qs” that is included in Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2.

Tech guru, Mishaal Rahman, tweeted that users would be able to smoothly move an eSIM profile from an old android phone to a new phone and change a physical SIM card from an old phone to an eSIM profile on a new one, thanks to the new feature.

Before now, android users struggled with moving an eSIM profile from one android phone to another.

The eSIM profile could only be deactivated on the old phone and activated on the new phone.

Sadly, the process is not simple, and one would even need to get in touch with the network carrier to get the eSIM activated on a new phone.

However, iOS comes with a built-in Quick Transfer function that enables you to move physical or eSIMs from an old iPhone to a new one without having to get in touch with your carrier.

Rahman adds that the capability is being implemented by Google in the SIM Manager software for its Pixel phones and a number of other devices that come pre-loaded with Google Mobile Services.

Google’s Pixel lineup will likely support both eSIM profile transfers and converting a physical SIM to an eSIM profile.

Devices from other OEMs will also get support for eSIM profile transfers, but the ability to convert a physical SIM to an eSIM profile might be limited to a few models.

At the moment, it’s not clear when Google plans to release the feature, according to reports.

Nevertheless it could arrive with the March 2023 Pixel Feature Drop or later in the year with Android 14.
