Canva donates revenue to Turkey, Syria quake victims

Canva, a graphic design platform, is donating proceeds from the platform to the victims of the Turkey and Syria earthquake.

The users of the platform came across the notification that the app and website. The notification stated that Canva has started a fundraiser to provide relief in earthquake-hit Turkiye and Syria.

“For 72 hours, all proceeds from any elements purchased in Canva will be donated towards emergency crisis relief in Turkiye and Syria,” read the message on Wednesday, February 15I’

At least 43,885 people have died across Turkey and neighbouring Syria after a powerful 7.8 magnitude quake, according to authorities.

Turkish authorities have said that at least 38,044 people have been killed in the country, while the Syrian government and the United Nations say more than 5,800 people have died.
The UN has also launched an appeal for $1 billion in aid to help earthquake victims in Turkey.

More than 120 aid trucks had crossed into Syria as of Thursday, but local officials say the amount of is not enough with large numbers of people who were rendered homeless by the disaster.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development on Thursday said that the economic toll of the quake in Turkey could reach $25 billion, which is almost 2.5% of the country’s GDP.

A separate appeal for $400m has been launched for neighbouring Syria, where almost 6,000 people died in the government areas of Aleppo and the northwest of the country, which was heavily affected by the quake.

Canva provides users with a wide range of free tools to design, and it also offers some premium elements for top-notch designs.

The revenue made from the purchases of premium elements would be channelled toward Turkey and Syria according to the fundraiser text.

This is not the first-time Canva is donating to charity, in 2022, the platform also donated to the citizens of Ukraine who were affected by the war between Ukraine and Russia.
