ChatGPT founder Sam Altman visits Nigeria

OpenAI founder, Sam Altman attended an exclusive OpenAI event at Muson Centre in Lagos, Nigeria. Several tech leaders, investors, and developers attended the event.

The event was divided into two parts: a Q&A session and a meet-and-greet with Altman.

“It was a great event. Looking forward to integrating AI into our startup and cannot wait to see how it makes a huge difference to the African Tech space in the next few years.” Sudhanshu Gaurav, Co-founder of Incash, one of the attendees said.

According to Techpoint, Altman’s sole stop in Africa may be Nigeria, as he departs for Europe.

However, there are speculations that the company is scouting for tech talents in the country.

While the company has not formally stated the reason for Altman’s visit, RAIN Technologies’ Olusola Ayoola stated that Altman is coming to learn how OpenAI “can meet our needs in Nigeria.”

One of the most well-known OpenAI scandals in Africa has been the improper remuneration and layoff of Kenyan workers in order to perfect ChatGPT. Against this backdrop, OpenAI may be seeking to permanently improve its reputation on the continent.
