Google employee falls to death from 14th floor of firm’s HQ

The New York Police Department has confirmed the death of a software engineer died after falling from the 14th story of Google’s headquarters.

The name of the 31-year-old senior software engineer is being suppressed awaiting notification of relatives.

The New York Police Department confirmed to Insider that officers responded to a 911 call at about 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, reporting an unconscious person lying on the ground at 111 Eighth Avenue on West 15th Street in Manhattan.

The engineer’s name has not been revealed until notification of his family, according to the NYPD. He was transferred to Bellevue Hospital and pronounced dead.

Google did not immediately react to Insider’s several requests for comment, which were submitted after normal business hours.

The New York Post reported in February on the suspected suicide death of another Google employee.

According to the US Bureau of Statistics, 307 workplace-related suicides occurred in 2019, the highest number on record.
