The newly appointed Twitter CEO Linda Yaccarino, in a tweet on Saturday stated that she is inspired by Elon Musk’s vision for a brighter future and is enthusiastic about helping modernise the social media network.
It was Yaccarino’s first public statement since the news surfaced on Thursday that she was in talks to become Twitter’s next CEO.
Musk, who has been CEO of Twitter since his $44 billion takeover last October, confirmed her appointment on Friday.
“I’ve long been inspired by [Musk’s] vision to create a brighter future. I’m excited to help bring this vision to Twitter and transform this business together!” Yaccarino tweeted.
Yaccarino, who spent several years modernising Comcast’s NBCUniversal’s advertising division as its advertising executive, said she is committed to Twitter’s future and that user feedback is critical to building Twitter 2.0.
Yaccarino will take over a social media network that is struggling to recover from a drop in ad revenue and is burdened by significant debt.
Following Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, advertisers have deserted the platform, concerned that their advertising would appear next to improper content after the firm laid off roughly 80% of its employees. Musk admitted earlier this year that Twitter’s ad revenue had plummeted dramatically.
While Musk stated that Yaccarino will assist in the development of an “everything app,” which he previously stated may offer a variety of services such as peer-to-peer payments, his choice of an advertising veteran indicated that digital ads would remain a primary emphasis of the company.
