Mercedes recalls 161,000 SUVs over crash risk

Joy Onuorah

Automobile company, Mercedes-Benz has recalled 161,000 SUV models due to a hazardous fault in the construction of its window trim bars.

Models from the 2020–2022 production years of the GLE–Class, GLS–Class, and Maybach GLS–Class are included in the recall. All versions had trim bars that could come apart from the windows of the cars.

The Car Connection reports that trim bars that separate off a moving Mercedes-Benz may present a hazard to other motorists and raise the chance of an accident and injuries.

Before a hazard arises, there are no obvious warning signals of this recall’s issue.

The recall of the GLE-Class and GLS-Class by Mercedes-Benz is an extension of one that affected 13,799 2020 cars in October 2019.

Since its initial 2019 recall until July 2022, the German company has recorded 75 warranty claims or field reports, according to The Car Connection.
According to Consumer Reports, there have been no reports of accidents, injuries, or damage to third parties’ property associated with this recall.

Mercedes-Benz intends to refasten its window trim hazard if necessary.

Drivers won’t have to worry about spending money on repairs because these recalled SUVs are still covered by warranties.

On November 11th, 2022, Mercedes-Benz owners of the 2020 to 2022 GLE, GLS, and Maybach GLS classes will start getting recall notices.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s [NHTSA] campaign number for the recall is 22V680.
