Meta's Quest Pro VR headset to cost $1000 from March

CEO of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg, announced in a terse message via his Instagram account on Friday that the business would reduce the price of the $1,500 Meta Quest Pro VR headset by $500.

The business would also reduce the price of the 256GB Quest 2 headset even more, to $429, which is only $30 more expensive than the 128GB model.

This is “so more people can get into VR,” Zuckerberg revealed.

According to a blog post, these price modifications will take effect on March 5.

The company said in its Meta Quest Blog; “Our goal has always been to create hardware that’s affordable for as many people as possible to take advantage of all that VR has to offer.”

With features like full-color passthrough enabling some limited augmented reality capabilities, along with a larger screen size, eye tracking, and a more powerful processor, the Meta Quest Pro was initially designed with VR fans and pros in mind.

Reviews of its October publication were very conflicting.

It was soon apparent that the device’s primary drawbacks stemmed from its high price relative to its features.

Given that the newly announced $1,099 HTC VIVE XR Elite headset is only $100 more expensive than Meta, the competition may be getting nervous. Similar full-color external cameras and hand-tracking features are found on the new, more expensive device.

Although these new headsets are much more aimed toward a type of mixed reality experience that blends AR and VR capabilities, this week’s “leaked” VR roadmap from Meta revealed that the business is preparing for several additional headsets in the near future.
