TikTok COO Pappas steps down after five years

TikTok Chief Operating Officer V. Pappas is leaving after five years with the short-video business owned by China’s ByteDance.

Pappas announced that they will be serving as the company’s advisor during the transition in an email to the staff.

Pappas, who uses the pronoun they, added, “Given all the successes reached at TikTok, I finally feel the time is right to move on and refocus on my entrepreneurial passions.”

Zenia Mucha, a 20-year Walt Disney veteran, will join TikTok as chief brand and communications officer, ByteDance Chief Executive Shou Chew also revealed in a note to staff published with Reuters on Thursday.

Chief of staff of TikTok, Adam Presser, will take on the role of head of operations and be in charge of distribution, user operations, and content.

Due to its Chinese ownership, TikTok has drawn attention from all across the world for security reasons.
