Twitter finally removes free verification marks

Twitter blocks links to one-week-old rival Threads

Twitter has finally formally its blue checkmarks, one of the features of Twitter before Elon Musk took over ownership of the platform.

The legacy blue checks, which Twitter distributed for free to journalists, celebrities, and other public officials to assist combat impersonation and spam, were set to expire on April 1.

Musk took to Twitter on April 11 — days after the legacy checkmarks were supposed to vanish — to change the end date to April 20.

With the removal of the heritage checkmarks, Twitter will only have verification marks for paying users, corporations, and government bodies and officials who subscribe to Twitter Blue.

Under Musk’s leadership, Twitter has kept its pledge to remove legacy checkmarks from even the highest-profile personalities. Celebrities and known personalities like US President, Donald Trump, Pope Francis, Beyonce were not exempted from the policy.
