Twitter removes ‘state-affiliated’ label on media outlets

Twitter unveils feature for emoji reactions in DMs

Twitter on Friday removed the “state-affiliated media” label on some handles, such as National Public Radio and the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

A ‘state-affiliated’ label on Twitter means that the media platform’s editorial activities have some substantial input from the government.

This comes after Twitter removed verification checkmarks for different individuals worldwide on Thursday. Even the pope wasn’t spared in this move.

Twitter had designated this tag to NPR. After an objection, and a refusal by the microblogging platform to remove the tag, NPR with its 52 different Twitter handles announced their exits.

The labels are part of the Twitter Blue policy of Elon Musk, who is devising various ways to generate revenue for the platform.
