Twitter sets new record, says Musk

Elon Musk to launch paid verification for Twitter

The owner of Twitter, Elon Musk, has said that the micro blogging platform reached its peak usage on Thursday, November 17, despite a growing number of programmers leaving the social network.

Musk stated that more people are using the network despite many claiming to be leaving. This is amid concerns that the service may collapse in response to the rising hashtags #RIPTwitter and #GoodbyeTwitter.

Following the layoff of 3,700 employees by the new Twitter owner, a large number of engineers have resigned from Twitter. According to Nairametrics, the employees are leaving in protest to Musk’s ultimatum that Twitter employees must decide whether to be “very hardcore” and put in intensive, long hours or risk losing their jobs.

Many of the senior engineers at Twitter are alleged to have quit yesterday.

The hashtags #RIPTwitter and #GoodbyeTwitter are trending on Twitter as users muse over the platform’s future. Some people claim to be leaving the platform.

Musk responded to the craze with a meme depicting a tombstone with the mutated Twitter bird emblem on it.

“We just set another all-time high in Twitter usage…lol,” Musk wrote in another tweet that seemed to be intended as a dig at those who claim the social media site is dying.

Some of the departing employees used Twitter to announce their departure from the organization. Former worker Jessalyn Johnson wrote:

Because of the folks I got to work with every day, I left my dream job today with a happy heart.
Brian, a recent departing Twitter employee, tweeted the following:

“I walked away from my dream job today with a full heart because of the people I got to work with every day.”
Brian, another Twitter employee that just resigned, tweeted this:

“After 8+ years, I still don’t know what to say in this tweet. It was one hell of a ride and a highlight of my career.

“Today I decided to leave Twitter. Words can’t express how grateful I am to have had the opportunity to work in this amazing place with so many talented people.”

Musk is not moved: However, when a journalist asked Musk about why the engineers are leaving, he replied by saying that “the best people are staying, so I am not super worried.”
