Twitter unveils feature for emoji reactions in DMs

Twitter has unveiled a new feature that allows users to respond to a direct message in a discussion using practically any emoji.

Previously, you could only respond to the most recent DM using a limited set of emojis.

Elon Musk announced on Twitter that the feature is now available in the most recent software update.

This puts Twitter on level with other messaging apps that currently support emoji reactions, such as WhatsApp and Telegram.

In addition, Musk stated that Twitter will release the first version of encrypted direct messages on Wednesday. However, he did not specify if users might look for an indicator to determine whether their chats are protected by end-to-end encryption.

The idea, according to Musk, is for DMs to “superset Signal.”

The Tesla CEO also stated in his tweet that the company will soon enable voice and voice calls on Twitter. All of these capabilities are most likely part of Musk’s ambition to transform Twitter into a “everything app.”
