Meta, a massive digital corporation, has developed a payment tool on its WhatsApp service for customers and small business owners in Brazil.

On Tuesday, the company announced via its website that WhatsApp users in Brazil may now make payments to companies over the app’s end-to-end encrypted chat.

Customers can use the functionality much like a shopping app, searching for products or services offered by nearby entrepreneurs, adding their desired purchases to virtual shopping carts, and paying for their purchases.

The press release stated, “On WhatsApp in Brazil, you can search for a business, browse products and services, add them to your cart, and checkout with just a few simple taps.

“Paying for goods and services can now be done using Mastercard, Visa debit, credit, and prepaid cards that are provided by the many banks taking part in the program. To securely take payments from their customers, small businesses using the WhatsApp Business app can attach a compatible payment partner, such as Cielo, Mercado Pago, or Rede, and create an order within the app.”

As card numbers are “encrypted and securely kept,” the corporation guaranteed that the payment method was secure. Moreover, users will need to generate a special payment PIN for each transaction.

Although the feature is presently only accessible in Brazil, Meta said there are plans to make it accessible in additional nations.
