People are gravitating towards companies that correspond with their beliefs, according to new LinkedIn statistics, and their values encompass a variety of characteristics such as diversity and skill progression and not the pay check.
The company released its annual list of the best places to work on Wednesday, with Amazon maintaining the top spot and Google owner Alphabet dropping from second to fifth place.
The rankings are based not just on realistic assessments of how many employees were laid off, but also on how organizations performed on softer and cultural skills, which it claims to speak to how long a worker is more likely to stay at a company.
So, in addition to “company stability” (companies had to have fewer than 10% workforce layoffs in the previous year to qualify), it said, other details like growth and learning opportunities, equity in the workplace, and strong company culture are “of growing importance for job seekers as they prioritise organisations that align with their own values.”
In line with that finding, LinkedIn used the data to launch a new tool for job seekers to use while building their job searches.
LinkedIn and its owner Microsoft are purposefully excluded from the rankings, but aside from Amazon and Alphabet, just one other technology business reached the top-10 list, Apple at number eight.
Twitter, naturally, does not appear in the rankings, nor do other major players such as Facebook owner Meta, Netflix, or Samsung.
For decades, LinkedIn, with 900 million registered users, has been a vital hub for people looking for job in the so-called knowledge economy.
