Don’t label us as Nigeria, Norwegian govt tells Twitter

Norway’s foreign ministry has complained on Twitter that it had been mislabelled as a Nigerian organisation due to a spelling error.

Both Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere’s and Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt’s Twitter accounts were identified as representing Nigeria.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry said, “Dear @TwitterSupport, as much as we enjoy our excellent bilateral relations and close alphabetical proximity with Nigeria, we would greatly appreciate it if you could label us as Norway.”

However, Nigerian Foreign Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama is correctly identified on the site.

Some Twitter accounts display labels and small flag icons to indicate their government affiliation.

Meanwhile, Twitter is yet to issue an official response and it’s unclear what caused the mistake.

The distance between the two capital cities, Oslo and Abuja, is more than 7,500 kilometres, and Twitter’s new owner, Elon Musk, was born and raised in South Africa.
