France’s Engie and Amazon on Friday, inaugurated Italy’s largest agrivoltaic farm, with the goal of supplying green energy to the e-commerce giant’s Italian business.
The farm, located near the Sicilian city of Trapani, will generate electricity by placing photovoltaic panels far above the earth, allowing cultivation in the fields below.
According to a joint statement, Engie and Amazon have signed a corporate power purchase agreement under which the majority of the power generated by the 66-megawatt plant would be sold to the e-commerce company.
This is the most recent show of Amazon’s intention to invest in different industries and countries.
