THE Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry has completed the pilot phase of its professional information communication and technology training for members of the National Youth Service Corps.

In his address at the closing ceremony of the training for corps members in the Federal Capital Territory recently, the President, ACCI, Al-Mujtaba Abubakar, said the programme was part of activities of the chamber’s Business Entrepreneurship Skills and Technology Centre.

He said, “This pilot phase of professional IT/ICT training for corps members was developed to upskill 100 youth corps members within Abuja on employability skills that can make them employable and highly competitive in the global market.

“During the opening ceremony held on February 9, 2022, participants were encouraged to take full advantage of this rare opportunity with a commitment from the BEST Centre to give participants all it takes to learn.

“I am glad to inform you that they have been empowered with skills and knowledge required to thrive in their chosen skills.”

Abubakar explained that the chamber was currently operating four centres alongside the secretariat.

He outlined the centres to include the Abuja Trade Centre; Business Entrepreneurial Skills and Technology Centre; Policy Advocacy Centre; and Dispute Resolution Centre, with each carrying out specialised functions in the development of the Nigerian economy.

“The BEST Centre being the training and capacity development arm of the chamber, has in the past few years received several awards and accolades for its role in skills development and promoting youth empowerment,” Abubakar said.

He added, “The centre’s flagship #BEST1000 training aimed at skilling 1000 youth in one year, was highly successful with over 70 per cent of the first batch of 120 participants currently engaged and generating incomes with the skills learnt.”

The ACCI president assured participants at the event that the member-funded chamber would continue to represent the common interests of the business community in the FCT and the country in general.

The chamber stated that the training was supported by the GIZ Skills Development for Youth Employment, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Empowerment Department.
