China’s leading artificial intelligence company SenseTime has unveiled a range of new AI-powered products, including a chatbot and image generator.
The launch reflects the intense global competition in the AI race ignited by the success of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, a popular chatbot that uses generative AI technology to create new text, images, and computer code.
SenseTime’s co-founder, Wang Xiaogang said, “We have been focusing on developing our big models. In addition to our powerful AI infrastructure…SenseTime has also developed the ability to deploy big models across our product line,” adding that SenseChat contained more than 100 billion parameters.
SenseTime’s CEO and co-founder, Xu Li, demonstrated SenseChat’s abilities, which included writing an email, scripting computer codes, and telling a story about a cat catching a fish when prompted by questions.
SenseTime’s latest products are based on its SenseNova big model, which the company has been developing over the past five years. Big models are typically trained on massive datasets using powerful hardware.
In addition to SenseChat, SenseTime showcased an image generator, a digital avatar creation platform, and a pair of complementary 3D modeling tools.
These applications work together to create videos in which the presenter, environment, and products are all generated by AI in real-time.
“We can generate a digital scene for a live-streaming room. The product creation and interactive content are all generated by AI, and the live-streaming room runs non-stop 24 hours a day,” said Xu Li.
SenseTime, which has been sanctioned by the US, did not provide detailed plans for a product roll-out but invited attendees to try out the products. The company’s shares soared last week after invitations for the event were sent out.
Chinese tech companies are rushing to launch their versions of OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Alibaba Group is expected to launch its Tongyi Qianwen AI chatbot on Tuesday.
