OpenAI proposes international regulatory body for AI

OpenAI’s leadership has disclosed that the world needs an international regulatory body that should checkmate AI.

The founder Sam Altman, President Greg Brockman, and Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever explained that the regulation became necessary for artificial intelligence in a company blog post.

OpenAI’s post states that tracking compute power and energy usage dedicated to AI is one of the measures that can be reported and tracked.

“Unless there is external pressure to do something different, companies are not just going to self-regulate. We need regulation and we need something better than just a profit motive.” Leading AI researcher, Timnit Gebru shared similar sentiments in an interview with the Guardian.

This development comes as European Union tries to make laws for the regulation of AI
